Our Beliefs

The Bible is the inspired word of God, and His primary method of revealing Himself to humanity. The Scriptures layout His plan for the salvation of mankind.  They cannot fail, and do not contain any errors.  The Bible is completely trustworthy and is the basis for what we believe and how we live. We believe that the one and only true eternal God is the creator of the universe and redeemer of all mankind. He exists in three co-equal and co-eternal persons: The Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit – each of whom possesses all the attributes of deity and the characteristics of personhood. We believe that Jesus Christ is both fully God and fully Man, conceived miraculously by the Holy Spirit, and born of a virgin. Jesus lived a sinless life, fully obedient to God, making him the perfect substitute to pay the penalty of Sin for all of humanity.  Jesus voluntarily offered his life by death on a cross to atone for the Sin of mankind and rose in bodily form three days later.  His resurrection was witnessed by over 500 individuals before his ascension to heaven where he now sits at the right hand of God.  Jesus will return in bodily form to rule the Earth.  Isaiah 9:6; Isaiah 53; Matthew 1:22-23; John 1:5; Acts 1:3; 1:9-11; 4:10-12; Luke 24:36-48; Romans 1:3-4; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8; Philippians 2:5-11; Colossians 1:13-20; Titus 2:13-14; Hebrews 4;14-15; Revelation 22:20

The Holy Spirit exists as the third person of the Trinity, and is given to every person who trusts Jesus at the moment of salvation. He enables each believer to live a life pleasing to God, and produces within the believer evidence that they belong to God.

All believers are entitled to and should actively seek, a second infilling of the Holy Spirit known as the baptism in the Holy Spirit as commanded by Jesus Christ. This was the normal experience of the early Christian Church.  With it comes the ability to live a life of service to God and unique gifts for use in the work of the ministry.  We believe the initial sign of this baptism is speaking in tongues, and that each believer should show continuing evidence of life transformation.  John 14:16-17, 16:7-13; Acts 1:8; 2:1-4; Romans 8:16, 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 2:12-16, 6:19-20, 1 Corinthians 12; 2 Corinthians 3:16-18; Galatians 5:16-25; Ephesians 1:13-14, 4:11-13

The central purpose of God’s revelation in scripture is to invite all people into relationship with Himself. Originally created to be good and upright, humanity defied God by voluntary disobedience incurring not only physical death, but also spiritual death, which is separation from God. The event known as The Fall took place at the beginning of human history and as a result all individuals suffer the consequences of Sin, sickness, and death, and are in need of the saving grace of God.

The salvation of humanity is a complete work of redemption by God’s free grace evidenced by the crucifixion of Jesus. It is not a result, in whole or in part, of human effort or goodness. Salvation must be personally received by repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. This results in a person becoming a new creation and being continually transformed into the image of Christ. The Church is composed of all persons who, by saving the grace of Jesus Christ, are united together in faith and community. The church is expressed in many unique and diverse ways through local congregations as it fulfills its five primary purposes: to worship God; to experience community with each other; to engage in the process of spiritual growth; to equip each other for service; and to reach the world through missions.

We believe the Church has two primary ordinances which the scriptures command each believer to observe.  Baptism in water by full immersion is a public declaration that a person has repented and identified with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Holy Communion was instituted by Jesus as a remembrance of His death.  The elements of this are bread, which represents his body broken, and grape juice, which represents his blood shed for Sin. Divine healing is an integral part of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  It was an evidence of Jesus’ deity, and continued as evidence of his resurrection through the hands of his believers. Healing is provided for in the atonement, a result of Jesus shed blood on the cross. Isaiah 53:4-5; Matthew 8:16-17; Hebrews 6:1-3; James 5:14-16

Created to exist forever, each person’s death consummates his or her eternal destiny. Upon Christ’s return, the dead will be raised together with those who are alive to face the judgment of God. He or she will either consciously exist in Hell—eternally separated from God by Sin, or, in the New Heaven and New Earth—eternally in union with God through forgiveness and salvation.
